In Arab, black seed or Nigella Sativa also taken for curing/treating cough and asthma.(Lebling and Pepperdine, 2006). The thymoquinone belonged to Nigella Sativa and extracted from Nigella Sativa oil by El–Dakhakhny about 1963.

Asthma is initiated by multiple interactions between inflammatory cells and mediators and it affects the lungs, hyperactivity of muscle smoothness and mucus hypersecretion.According to global asthma physician and patient(GAPP) conducted a survey in about 2005, It was reported that 76% of the asthmatic patients and 81% of Physicians preferred that there must be some other treatment than the current treatment.

Experimental Work on Black seed ( Nigella Sativa )

Pre-clinical studies of Nigella sativa in cellular and animal models of asthma

 Anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory results

Black seed or Nigella Sativa and compound-related are thymoquinone, alpha hederin and nigellone on asthmatic animal models (18 in number) and a the single asthmatic human cellular model showed in seven studies with anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory results.

Relaxant effect or bronchodilatory
In six studies, the Black Seed  or Nigella Sativa (NS) extracts, thymoquinone or a-hederin delivered a relaxant effect or bronchodilatory.

 Anti-histaminic result
In Four studies related to Nigella Sativa oil or extract of aqueous form, nigellone or alpha-hederin provided anti-histaminic results. The Pathological betterment was recognized in five studies when thymoquinone was applied.

Nigella sativa clinical studies in asthmatic patients

An effective results of a Black Seed or Nigella Sativa (NS) related to seven clinical studies of biomarkers and asthma. After the application of seeds powder (crushed) or may be in the form of oil extract in two (RSBPCT) and three (RDBPCT) Black Seed or Nigella Sativa (NS) caused betterment / impressive results on adults asthmatic patients in pulmonary function test (PFT). In addition, a reduction of blood eosinophilia was found in RDBPCT.Also in RDBPCT, blood eosinophilia decreased.

Uses / benefits
According to the clinical effect/uses of the Nigella Sativa. It has following features.

  • cellular models of asthma including bronchodilation.
  • anti-inflammatory
  • anti-leukotrienes
  • anti-histaminic
  • immunomodulatory effects
  • reduction of blood eosinophilia.
  • antioxidant effect
  • chemopreventive activity
  •  exceptional anticancer activity
  • The thymoquinone in stomach inhibiting benzo(a) pyrene-induced carcinogenesis when experimented in a mouse model.
  • The thymoquinone (TQ) is resisting behavior achieved against an increase in proliferation of numerous cell lines.
  • The thymoquinone (TQ) opposes the growth of mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) and protein kinase B (AKT/PKB).
  • The molecules related to Nigella Sativa(NS) consisting of the ability for having the activity for antitumor and increased permeability of the membrane.
In North Africa it  has been applied to the following diseases/symptoms:
  • bronchitis
  • headache,
  • rheumatism
  • fever
  • cough
  • influenza
  • eczema
Suggestions:
The use of black seed or Nigella Sativa is useful for the patient suffering from corona disease or CoViD19 . Also in accordance with the asthmatic patient and doctors survey held in about 2005 of global asthma physician and patient or GAPP on average about 76% were interested in new treatment for asthma.
The use of black seed with honey will be effective for corona patient.
